This project is a guest house and garage in the Catskills.  Our inspiration was a grown up tree house that provides a perch above the landscape. The stone clad base of the building contains the garage and bathroom level, and creates a plinth for the living floor.  We focused on making a unique experience for visitors to the house, so the stair leading up is surrounded by rope which doubles as the railing.  The rope is reminiscent of a hand made tree house and brings in a sense of playfulness.  The living floor is finished in rough sawn wood cut from wood felled at the site and adds to the sense of playfulness.  Finally, large windows frame views of the site and provide the perch for visitors.
